Dolly Rebecca Parton
Dolly Rebecca Parton was created on
January 19, 1946, in Pittman Center (Tennessee). She was born to Avie Lee
Parton and Robert Lee Parton in Sevierville. Parton was a housewife and Parton
is a tobacco farmer. At the age of 12, she was already on Knoxville TV. At 13
she was already recording for a small record label and performing on the Grand
Ole Opry. She graduated high school in 1964 before moving to Nashville to begin
her country singing journey. Carl Dean, an asphalt-paving businessman, was drawn
to her and they tied the knot on May 30 the 30th of May, 1966. Porter Wagoner
saw her singing and invited her to appear on The Porter Wagoner Show (1961).
She was on the show for seven years. Their duets went viral and she was a part
of his group on the Grand Ole Opry; she also sold and toured records. Her hit
"Joshua" was released at the top spot in 1970, was her biggest hit
single. She chose to go by herself, even though she still recorded duets with
the singer. She had left him and became a solo artist in 1974. Dolly achieved
immense fame as a songwriter/singer. Dolly has won many Country Music
Association awards (1968, 1970, 1971, 1975, and 1976). The diminutive
(5'0") beauty was an easy fit for television. By the mid-1970s, she was
often appearing on television specials, talk shows, and before getting her own
Dolly (1976). Dolly was awarded her first Grammy award for Best Female Country
Vocal Performance in 1977 for "Here You Come Again". Dolly's first
appearance in a film was in the movie 9-to-5 (1980), where she won an Oscar
nomination for her song title and Grammy awards 2 and 3. The singer also took
home Grammy awards 2, 3, Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal
Performance, for the track "Nine To Five." Further fame was earned
through her appearances in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982), as in
Rhinestone (1984) in which she sang the song "Tennessee Homesick
Blues". Dolly Parton Enterprises, worth $100 million, is her principal.
Dollywood was established in Pigeon Forge in Tennessee in 1986 in celebration
of her Smoky Mountain roots. In the TV show of 1987, Dolly she was the lead
herself. In 1988 she was awarded another Grammy: Best Country Performance Duo
or Group with Vocals for "Trio".
